Thank you for your interest in supporting Sam Centre! Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization, and we deeply value the time, energy, and passion they bring to our work. At this time, we are not actively recruiting new volunteers to support Sam Centre in galleries, and through education program support.

What will Sam Centre Volunteers do?

Sam Centre Volunteers will create an exceptional guest experience by delivering world-class western hospitality and bringing Calgary’s Stampede story alive. This will include welcoming guests to the space, facilitating interactive experiences in the Scown Gallery, and sharing stories in the Ross Glen Gallery. Sam Centre Volunteers will also support ticketing, monitor exhibits and experiences, and work closely with other volunteers and staff to support Sam Centre’s success.

What is the volunteer time commitment?

Sam Centre Volunteers are expected to commit at least 100 hours per year - this works out to about 2 shifts/month.
Shifts will typically be 4-4.5 hours long during the day, Tuesday-Sunday. There will also be shifts on holiday Mondays and occasionally evening shifts for special events.
Sam Centre may have extended hours and increased volunteer needs during the 10-day Stampede in July.
All volunteers will be required to complete training before they start volunteering (about 10 hours) and on an ongoing basis to learn about new exhibits and experiences.

Are there benefits to being a Sam Centre volunteer?

Sam Centre Volunteers will join the ranks of over 3,000 Calgary Stampede volunteers and will maintain this status as long as they continue to meet the minimum volunteer commitment. This includes eligibility to become a Calgary Stampede shareholder and other benefits available to Calgary Stampede volunteers which may include benefits like the discount card program, recognition for years of service, and more!

Sam Centre volunteers will also get special perks including brewed coffee and tea during shifts, a discount at the cafe in Sam Centre, free admission to Sam Centre for 3 years, thanks to a generous donor, discounted passes to bring family and friends to Sam Centre, volunteer appreciation events and special experiences, and recognition based on hours of service.
