CENTRE STAGE: THE STORY OF CALGARY STAMPEDE ROYALTY

For eight decades, Calgary Stampede Royalty have stood centre stage as ambassadors of the Stampede and Elbow River Camp, representing The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth in communities across Calgary and around the world.

Centre Stage: The Story of Calgary Stampede Royalty explores the legacy and lasting impact of the individuals who have carried these crowns, alongside the dedicated teams who support them behind the scenes. Through historical artifacts, photographs and personal belongings from former Stampede Royalty, the exhibit offers an intimate look at the stories behind the crowns and reveals how each generation reflected its time while carrying forward Stampede’s western heritage, culture and community spirit.

The tradition of Stampede Royalty dates back to 1946, when Patsy Rodgers was named Miss Stampede and represented the Stampede across Canada and in New York City. Today, Stampede Royalty includes the First Nations Princess and the Calgary Stampede Princess, who continue this legacy, attending hundreds of events each year while developing leadership skills through mentorship, coaching, and hands-on experience in public speaking, horsemanship and community engagement.
